Family Rituals Series

***********

Next up in our routines and rituals series: DISCIPLINE! No matter your approach to discipline, consistent structure makes your approach easier and more effective. Most parents know this intuitively but we all need a reminder on occasion!

In this show

  1. What is the purpose of discipline? For me, discipline is less about punishment and more about leading my child toward maturity. I see discipline as an act of mercy in which parents enter into the chaos of a child’s immaturity, bringing order to the chaos.
  2. How do rituals and routines help us in disciplining our children?
    • Routines and rituals reduce the unknown for a child, so he knows what he should be doing and when.
    • Routines and rituals reduce frustration in our child, so we will avoid common triggers for tantrums and pushback.
    • Routines and rituals allow our child to rehearse mature behavior long before he reaches maturity.
