Here is my free Advent Lectio Divina for Families guide for Week 4 of Advent! In this post, you can read an explanation of lectio divina (sacred reading) and why we would want to pray lectio with our children.

In short, lectio is an ancient form of prayer in which we meditate on a passage of Sacred Scripture, conversing with God and allowing him to reveal himself to us. Sometimes during lectio, we are surprised by something we never noticed in a passage we have heard many times. Often this is the Holy Spirit, pointing our attention to something we need to hear.

In the Week 4 guide, I’ve included a guided lectio with scripture, prayers, and discussion prompts. I’ve also included an option for visio divina (sacred seeing) using “The Immaculate Conception” by Bartolome Esteban Perez Murillo (17th century).
